Searching for a “Colombia tourist visa”? Good news: travelers from the US, Canada, the UK, the EU, Australia and 90+ other countries don’t need a tourist visa, you get a 90-day entry permit on arrival. Below is exactly what applies to your nationality, how to stay longer legally, and how Alex Migration helps if you need a visa or an extension.

Do you need a tourist visa for Colombia?

  • Visa-free (90 days): US, Canada, UK, EU/Schengen, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and most of Latin America. You get a 90-day entry permit stamped on arrival — no visa required.
  • Tourist visa (Visa V) required in advance: nationals of some countries (for example China, India, and several countries in Africa and Central Asia) must apply for a Visa V at a Colombian consulate before traveling. If that’s you, we prepare and file it for you.

Not sure which applies? Send us your passport country and we’ll confirm in your free check.

How long can you stay in Colombia as a tourist?

You get 90 days on entry, and you can extend up to a maximum of 180 days per calendar year (January–December). Important: the 180-day cap counts every day you spend in Colombia that year, leaving and re-entering (“border runs”) does not reset it.

How to extend your stay (prórroga de permanencia)

Before your 90 days run out, you can request a stay extension (Permiso Temporal de Permanencia) through Migración Colombia to reach up to 180 days for the year. We handle the online request, the paperwork and the timing so you don’t fall out of status or overstay. (Government fee is modest — around COP 150,000 for most nationalities; EU/Schengen travelers are exempt.)

Before you fly: Check-Mig

All travelers must complete the free Check-Mig form online with Migración Colombia within 72 hours before departure. It’s not a visa, but skipping it causes problems at check-in — we walk you through it.

Planning to stay, work or live in Colombia?

A tourist permit does not allow you to work or settle long-term. If that’s your goal, we’ll point you to the right visa:
