Colombia retirement visa requirements
It’s a subcategory of the Visa V (Visitor), built for remote workers, freelancers and digital entrepreneurs whose income comes from outside Colombia. Unlike a tourist stamp, it gives you legal status to live in Colombia while you work online, for up to 2 years.
Qualifying pensions include US Social Security, SSDI, VA disability, military retirement and private pension plans — public pensions are generally the easiest to approve.
What is the income requirement?
You need a monthly pension of about 3× Colombia’s minimum wage — in 2026, roughly USD 1,200–1,400 per month. Because it’s tied to the local minimum wage and the exchange rate, the exact figure moves through the year, so we confirm the current amount in your free check. Note: it must be pension income, not savings or investments.
How much does the Colombia retirement visa cost?
Study fee (on filing): ~USD 55–58.
Issuance fee (once approved): ~USD 270.
Cédula de extranjería (foreigner ID): ~USD 93.

Can I bring my spouse and family?
Yes. The retirement visa covers your spouse or registered partner and dependent children under 25 (and children with a disability, at any age) as beneficiaries, one of its biggest advantages over other visas.
Does it lead to permanent residency?
Yes, and this is the key difference from a tourist or digital nomad visa. Time on the M-Pensionado counts toward the Resident visa (Visa R): after accumulating the required time you can apply for permanent residency in Colombia. If that’s your goal, we plan the path from the start.
One rule to keep your visa valid
As a Migrant (M) visa, you must not stay outside Colombia for more than 180 continuous days, or the visa is cancelled. If you plan to travel often, tell us and we’ll factor it in.
